Book Description

John Stands In Timber (1882-1967) was a noted Northern Cheyenne who served as tribal historian. Educated traditionally and in Indian Service schools, he was dedicated to preserving and conveying cultural and historical knowledge. Between 1956 and 1959, he worked with anthropologist Margot Liberty, recording these stories and ethnographic information. Together they produced Cheyenne Memories (CH, Jun'68), considered a classic in Native American ethnography and ethnohistory
