Book Description

The kids at school make fun of her, her brother thinks she's annoying, and her parents are always busy at their ice cream shop. It isn't until she discovers she can fly atop her white Thunderstrike bicycle that Debbie Fine knows deep down she's "Dizzy Fantastic-Fourth-Grade Superhero!" After all, who else but a superhero would be brave enough to befriend Mean Mr. Wilson and his rabid black Labrador, T-Rex? But when a terrible tragedy strikes that even Dizzy Fantastic is powerless to stop, Debbie must learn how to trust herself and her own abilities before she can save the day once more. This delightful debut from Andy Hueller is perfect for anyone who's ever felt alone or misunderstood--or has ever dreamed of unlocking the superhero within.

Book Review and Awards

"I enjoyed this book a great deal, mostly because the main character, Debbie Fine aka Dizzy Fantastic, is so engagingly and sympathetically portrayed. She's something of an outcast at her school, but she has loving parents who help her believe in herself, and a powerful imagination that allows her to live her own dreams regardless of what happens at school. Of course, then she develops superpowers and can actually put that imagination to work! The story starts out slow, but builds nicely, and once she's become Dizzy Fantastic, moves along at a great pace. There's a great deal of insight into how parents and kids interact, and some silly stuff that's also enjoyable and keeps some of the sad parts from being too depressing. The sad parts do add depth to the story. My nine year old niece also really enjoyed it, so I think it's suitable for ages 9 and up at least. Overall, lots of fun and recommended." - Reviewer123
